One Prop Challenge / 03

One Prop Challenge is a new series that allows us to play around with ideas, learn new techniques, and challenge ourselves as creatives. You can read about our first challenge here.

My prop for this third challenge is a circular woven bag. A good friend of mine recently took a trip to Vietnam and snagged this awesome souvenir. She gifted it to me last week and I knew it was what I wanted to shoot.

My initial idea for the bag was to place it on the ground as if it had been left there on accident. We found what looked like an abandoned building and explored the location to find spots to place it in. Elle suggested throwing the bag in the air to catch the movement of the shoulder strap and it turned out to be a really fun idea. The key was to keep it simple.

While this challenge wasn't necessarily difficult, the main struggle was having to make the environment work for the prop.
