INSPIRATION 47 / THAI MAINHARD
Last month after making a quick trip to the city, Elle and I checked out this amazing place in the Mission called Laundré. Part laundromat and part cafe, this space is a minimalist’s dream (aka my dream). I never knew that something like this could actually exist until we were ordering our avocado toast and coffee while noticing the “wash me” neon sign on the wall that pointed people to the laundry area. So. Freaking. Cool. Anyway, Elle had pointed out some of the abstract artwork behind the coffee bar. Each piece featured various paint strokes and interesting color choices that made me want to know what inspired it. I kept a mental note of it after we left.
Not too long ago, I looked up Laundré’s Instagram and discovered the artwork in the back wall is by Thai Mainhard. Thai is a Brazilian-Italian artist that paints songs. I was shook. What a brilliant way to create art — through music. As I look at Thai’s work, I don’t know all of the songs she paints but it’s so interesting to see how she interprets the sounds and her experience listening to it. The colors, the strokes, and the lines all translating the mood and energy of a song. I love the fluidity of each piece and how it comes together the way a visual journal would.
Her work will be up at Laundré for the rest of the year and I highly encourage you to check it out if you get the chance. You can also follow her Instagram to see her latest pieces.
Is it the weekend yet?
