INSPIRATION 08 / ULTRA VIOLET

I'm sure you've heard by now that Pantone, the definitive word on color, has named PANTONE 18-3838, Ultra Violet, as the color of the year for 2018. Color is so much more than what we see, it can bring up emotions and sway thoughts. It truly has more power than most realize which is why there is so much attention to color theory in graphic design, marketing, and other related fields.
This is what Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute has to say about the shade: “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
I honestly wasn't excited about this color choice when I first heard about it. I like the lavender hues that have started to come up over the last year or so, but deeper purple has never been a color that I have gravitated towards. I recently looked some ultra violet images as inspiration and now the color is beginning to grow on me. Here are some of my favorites.
